One of the greatest blessings of my life was to have been raised on a farm. My growing up years were filled with family, animals, tractors, 4-H, FFA, gravel roads, and all that comes with being a farm kid.
I left for college and earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Counseling. For the past 25 years, I have worked in the behavioral health field both providing direct service as well as supervising programs in an administrative capacity.
In 2016, opportunities began presenting themselves to speak and train on Emotional Stress on the Farm. I am passionate about this topic and the farming way of life! It has been a privilege to work with NDSU Extension, Minnesota Department of Agriculture, U of M Extension, the Red River Farm Network, and other groups and organizations to provide speaking and training on the topic of farm stress.
It is critical for anyone touched by the Ag Industry to have an understanding of the emotional impact of current trends on farmers, ranchers, and farm families. Growing up on a farm, Monica has first hand insight into farming operations and the unique experiences and barriers farmers and farm families encounter. That paired with 25 years of experience in the behavioral health field has given Monica valuable insight into Emotional Stress on the Farm.
Rural Mental Health
Monica provides Rural Mental Health Specialist services to MN farmers and ranchers. Through a contract with the Minnesota Centers of Agriculture Excellence and the Farm Business Management Program, Monica is available to provide mental health outreach to Minnesota farmers and their families. This program is of no cost to the farmer and is completely confidential.
Monica is available to consult with Mental Health organizations who are interested in becoming more “Agri-culturally” competent. She also provides consultation services to Ag sector industry organizations to support them in serving farmers and supporting their employees.
